What is the reconstruction of edentulous teeth with implants?
In the case of complete absence of teeth in the upper or lower arch, we use systems:
- All-on-4 - 4 implants supporting the bridge (usually in the mandible),
- All-on-5 - an intermediate solution to increase stability and support surface area,
- All-on-6 - the system most commonly used in the jaw where bone quality is lower.
The restoration (fixed bridge) is permanently fixed to the implants - it is not removable like dentures.
Stages of implant treatment for edentulous teeth
1. Digital diagnostics and planning
- Computed tomography (CBCT) - assessment of bones, sinuses and nerves,
- Digital design of implant placement,
- Assessment of the need for augmentation, sinus lift or tooth root extraction.
2. implantation procedure
- Placement of 4-6 implants under local anaesthesia,
- Possible pharmacological sedation - for patients with severe anxiety,
- Duration: approx. 90 minutes - depending on the number of implants and additional procedures.
3 Interim supplement
- In many cases, it is possible to make a temporary bridge on the day of surgery,
- The patient leaves the clinic with a full smile - the so-called immediate load,
- At this time, the process of osteointegration.
4. Final prosthetic work
- After 3-6 months, the target prosthetic work is made,
- All-ceramic or composite bridge, based on titanium or zirconia implants,
- Complement digitally designed, using wax-ups i mock-ups,
- Execution in laboratories in Dubai, Brazil or Switzerland.
When do we choose All-on-4 and when do we choose All-on-6?
All-on-4:
- Most commonly used in the mandible,
- Faster healing process, lower bone requirements,
- Economical version with good quality bones.
All-on-6:
- Preferred in the jaw, where the bone is more porous,
- Better distribution of chewing forces and greater stability.
All-on-5
- An intermediate solution, used individually - depending on the bone conditions and needs of the patient.
