Orthodontics step by step
1. treatment plan
On the basis of the entire photographic documentation and on the basis of 3D models, the doctor plans the orthodontic treatment, which consists of the following: particular stages of the treatment, assumed duration of the treatment, costs related to the fitting and removal of the orthodontic appliance, control visits and costs of retention treatment. The treatment plan is included in the so-called consent for orthodontic treatment, which the patient receives before the orthodontic braces are fitted.
2. bonding
In patients requiring the reconstruction of the correct height of the occlusion immediately prior to the application of braces, we perform bonding, by means of which we reconstruct the correct height of the teeth for the designed occlusion. Application of the composite on the teeth takes place during the same visit in the dental chair, the shape of the teeth is modelled by the dentist according to the rules.

3. fitting of braces
The fitting of braces usually takes about 1.5 h. During this visit, all the patient's teeth are cleaned with special toothpastes and brushes, the tartar is removed and then brackets are bonded to both the upper and lower dental arch. A wire is then inserted into the brackets, which is replaced at subsequent follow-up visits. Because dental health is important to us during malocclusion treatment, we instruct our patients on the following: oral hygiene, adherence to a proper diet, and timeliness of follow-up appointments. We also explain the importance of using the prescribed intermaxillary elastics lifts around the clock.
4. regular follow-up visits during the treatment period
The effectiveness and speed of treatment depends to a large extent on timeliness, i.e. acting in accordance with the planned calendar. Therefore, we oblige our orthodontic patients to come in for follow-up appointments, which take place between 4 and 10 weeks apart, depending on the type of defect, the progress of treatment and the need to control the orthodontic forces applied to individual teeth and groups of teeth.
5. removal of the device - end of active treatment
- Once orthodontic treatment is complete, we remove the braces.
- The next stage is RECONTURING, i.e. improving the shape of teeth by gently grinding the edges of the teeth with abrasive discs and soflexes. The tooth contouring procedure is completely safe for the teeth, as it only takes place in the area of enamel. At the UNIDENT UNION clinic® Recontouring is also performed during orthodontic treatment - during follow-up visits. Its purpose is to improve the natural, not always correct shape of individual teeth.
- The next step is SCALINGThe orthodontic treatment involves the removal of tartar, polishing, fluoridation and varnishing, as well as the fitting of retention appliances, both fixed and removable, which stabilise the orthodontic treatment achieved. All procedures last approx. 1.5-2 hours.
- We also incorporate other restorations - composite veneers and porcelain veneers - to restore the correct shape of teeth.
In addition, after dismantling the apparatus we perform:
- impressions for 3D models,
- full X-ray documentation,
- digital photographs of the face and dentition.
All of the above-mentioned activities, are performed in order to create comparative documentation before and after orthodontic treatment.
6. after 2 months - bleaching, bonding
After a two-month pause from active orthodontic treatment, we move on to the final work on the aesthetics of the orthodontic metamorphosis. Such a pause is required to allow the teeth and gums to "rest" from the intensive work. We order the Patient to undergo whitening in the overlay system, which, depending on the structure of the teeth, may take up to several months. During this time, the Patient should observe a white diet. After achieving a satisfactory whitening effect on the smile, we proceed to perform the final shaping of the teeth - we replace the temporary intra-orthodontic bonding to the target or we replace it with porcelain veneers.
