Titanium implant
What is a titanium implant? - A modern solution in tooth reconstruction
The titanium implant is the most commonly used solution in modern implant dentistry - durable, safe and fully biocompatible.
W clinic Unident Union in Wrocław, we place titanium tooth implants every day in patients of all ages - from 20 to 80.
It is a solution that has been used around the world for more than 50 years, giving millions of people a comfortable life and a smile without compromise.
What is a titanium implant?
It is a small screw made of pure, medical-grade titanium that replaces the natural root of a lost tooth.
The implant is inserted into the jawbone and after a period of healing (osteointegration) provides a solid base for a porcelain crown, bridge or denture.
Construction of a titanium implant
- Screw shape - conical or cylindrical, with threads to facilitate stable seating,
- Microporous surface - aids integration into bone,
- Lengths - typically 8 to 16 mm,
- Diameters - from very narrow (2.5 mm) to wider (5 mm),
- Connection to the crown - via a connector (abutment), which can also be titanium or zirconia (in the aesthetic zone).
For comparison: the implant is about the size of a screw half the length of a matchstick or... the diameter of a 10 penny coin.
It is a microscopic design with great strength.
What is the implant made of?
Made of pure medical-grade titanium - material:
- very light,
- extremely robust,
- entirely biocompatible with human tissues,
- resistant to corrosion and the oral environment.
Titanium has been used in medicine for years - not only in implantology, but also in:
- hip endoprostheses,
- spinal stabilisers,
- orthopaedic screws and bone reconstructions,
- hearing implants.
It is a material with proven biosafety - even for people with immune sensitivities.
Is the titanium implant allergenic?
Allergic reactions to titanium are extremely rare - according to scientific data, they affect less than 0.6% of the population and are usually non-specific.
In cases of suspicion or strong fear of metals, a MELISA (metal allergy) test can be performed and, if necessary, a zirconia (ceramic) implant can be used, metal-free).
W Unident Union we select the material individually - according to the needs and expectations of the patient.
Where do we use titanium implants?
- In single missing teeth,
- In the reconstruction of missing several teeth,
- For the treatment of complete edentulousness - All-on-4, All-on-5, All-on-6 systems,
- In the maxilla and mandible, in each section of the dental arch,
- In women and men, regardless of age - as long as bone and systemic conditions allow.
Are there age restrictions?
No.
Titanium implants can be implanted:
- young people (after the end of bone growth - usually around 18-20 years of age),
- adults and the elderly - even over 75-80 years of age.
The most important thing is adequate preparation of the body for the procedure, which includes:
- general condition analysis,
- stabilisation of chronic diseases,
- appropriate supplementation and diet pre-surgery,
- hygiene and stabilisation of oral conditions.
How long does a titanium implant last?
If it stays:
- properly implanted,
- appropriately weighted,
- properly cared for and controlled - can last a lifetime.
Summary
The titanium implant is a proven, safe and extremely durable solution in modern dentistry.
It is a small screw of titanium which, when integrated into the bone, acts as an artificial root - the foundation for a beautiful new tooth.
Used for decades in medicine, titanium is a well-tolerated material that is also used in orthopaedic reconstructions, neurosurgery and maxillofacial surgery.
At the clinic Unident Union in Wrocław each implant is planned individually, digitally, with attention to the patient's health, aesthetics and comfort.
