1. we focus on prevention, not chance
Every oral surgery procedure carries a risk of infection. We keep these to a minimum, therefore we do not perform surgery without prior Guided Biofilm Therapy (GBT) hygienization. This step is as important to us as the precise equipment or experience of our surgeon.
2. What is GBT hygienization and how does it differ from "ordinary sandblasting"?
Guided Biofilm Therapy is a modern, gentle protocol based on:
- Plate disclosure with a special dye that shows the areas of hidden biofilm.
- AIRFLOW® stream with erythritol powder to remove supragingival and subgingival plaque.
- PIEZON® ultrasound for painless tartar removal.
- PLUS polishingwhich smooths the surface of teeth and implants.
The effect? Up to 100 % of biofilm leaves the mouth and the gums are calm and insensitive.
3. why we do not operate without GBT hygienization - 4 hard reasons
Reason | What do you and we gain? |
---|---|
Reduced bacterial load | We remove biofilm that could cause inflammation after treatment. |
Faster and predictable healing | Research¹ shows that a clean surface regenerates faster and the risk of 'dry tooth' decreases. |
More accurate intraoperative diagnostics | A stained plate under a magnifying glass or microscope indicates potentially problematic areas. |
One-time pharmacotherapy | We limit the doses of antibiotics and painkillers; the patient takes medication for a shorter period of time. |
If the patient does not undergo GBT maximum 7 days before surgery, we reschedule your surgery. We do not risk your health or the effectiveness of your treatment.
4 What does a step-by-step GBT hygiene visit look like?
- Intelligence and biofilm staining - you can immediately see where the bacteria accumulate.
- AIRFLOW® - we remove stained plaque from teeth, necks and implants.
- PIEZON® - gently eliminate the stone, if necessary.
- PLUS polishing - smoothen the enamel so that biofilm is more difficult to deposit.
- DOM instruction - We demonstrate brushing technique and select an irrigator.
- Gum control - we assess the condition of the tissues and record the result in the chart.
The whole process takes 45-60 min and is painless; anaesthesia is usually not necessary.
5 Preparation schedule
Day | What is happening? |
---|---|
-7 days | GBT hygienization + home hygiene instruction. |
0 day | Surgical procedure led by our surgeon. |
+7-10 days | Follow-up visit: removal of sutures, assessment of healing. |
+3-6 months. | Subsequent GBT hygienization (or more frequently if prone to sedimentation). |
6 Frequently asked questions by patients (FAQ)
Does GBT hurt?
No - AIRFLOW® powders and PIEZON® ultrasound have a gentle effect; we can anaesthetise sensitive areas with gel.
Can I eat straight after GBT?
Yes, although wait 30 min for the saliva to neutralise the pH.
Is GBT replacing traditional sandblasting?
Yes - this is a new generation of sandblasting, more thorough and gentler on the gums.
What if I have gum inflammation?
All the more reason to require GBT; it will reduce swelling and bleeding even before surgery.
7. Prevention is the cornerstone of our treatment plan
Without a clean operating field, there is no safe surgery.
- GBT is a fast, comfortable procedure that determines the timing of the treatment.
- Thanks to it and the precision of our surgeon You gain shorter healing and less risk of complications.
