This is why we use new generation composites that are free of microplastics, bisphenol A (BPA) and bis-GMA resin - compounds that are potentially harmful to the body.
What is microplastic in dental composites?
Microplastics are very fine plastic particles that can be present in traditional dental materials - especially those based on epoxy resins such as bis-GMA (bisphenol-A-glycidyl-methacrylate). Although fillings made from these materials have been regarded as the standard for years, a growing body of research suggests that their composition may release trace amounts of endocrine-disrupting compounds.
Modern composites without bis-GMA - a healthier alternative
In our clinic, we use bis-GMA and BPA-free biocompatible composites, which have been developed for patients seeking maximum safety. These are new-generation materials, free of classic bisphenol-based resins and therefore do not release plastic microparticles. Their composition is based on alternative monomers (e.g. ormoceres or urethane-dimethacrylate resins), which show high chemical stability, abrasion resistance and lack of toxicity.
