Periodontology - treatment of the gums

Periodontics at Unident Union - healthy gums, stable teeth, protection for the whole body

Healthy gums are the foundation of oral and whole body health. When they are firm, pink and well attached, they stabilise the teeth, protect the against infections and affect the aesthetics of the smile. Unfortunately, periodontal disease develops quietly and insidiously, and its first symptoms - bleeding gums, loosening gums or bad breath - are often ignored by patients.

Patients often refer to this problem as 'parodontosis', thinking it is an incurable condition. In reality, it is a chronic inflammation caused by bacteria settling in the gum pockets - a problem that can be effectively stopped and even reversed in most cases. The most common cause is a lack of effective plaque removal and the use of proper oral hygiene techniques.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What are the symptoms of periodontitis (periodontal disease)?

Paradontopathy, or periodontal disease, often develops asymptomatically at an early stage, but both dentist and patient may notice characteristic symptoms.

Early signs of periodontopathy:

  • Swelling and redness of the gums,
  • Bleeding gums (spontaneous or when brushing),
  • Exudates from gingival pockets,
  • Tooth hypersensitivity to heat, cold or touch,
  • Bad breath (halitosis).

Advanced symptoms:

  • Teeth loosening, displacement or elongation of teeth,
  • Tooth loss due to progressive bone loss.

Regular dental check-ups at Unident Union Wrocław allow for early detection of periodontal changes, which is key to preventing further disease development.

Periodontitis, the colloquial term for periodontal disease, has many causes, with poor oral hygiene being the main contributor to its development. It is not only about improper care of the teeth, leading to the accumulation of plaque and calculus. Periodontal troubles are also due to the fact that we do not have a tradition of annual tartar removal with a scaling in the dental surgery. The removal of tartar deposits is important because in them bacteria responsible for periodontal inflammation are found. Tartar penetrates under the gum line, mechanically destroying the gingival attachments and bacteria in addition produce toxins that damage the supporting tissues of the teeth, which can lead to tooth loosening and loss.

Paradontopathy, also known as periodontitis, is a periodontal disease whose main cause is poor oral hygiene. Its risk may be increased by pgenetic predisposition. Also, some choroby metabolicsuch as diabetes promote inflammation, and gingivitis can be one of the their symptoms. Tartar deposition and the development of inflammation are often promoted by overloading and malocclusion. The development of periodontal disease is also influenced by smoking, stress and an acidifying diet. Gum recession and loss of tissue attachments can also manifest as osteoporosis. For this reason, during consultation and treatment planning we carry out in Unident Union comprehensive medical history.

W Unident Union in Wrocław we focus on non-invasive and painless techniques for the treatment of periodontitis. We use the latest technologies such as deep ultrasound with polishing of gingival root surfaces and sprays ofem hydroxyapatite. Thanks to this in most cases we eliminate surgical procedures for the treatment of inflammation of the gums and the entire periodontium. If the periodontium is being devastated by a bacterial strain resistant to standard treatment, we use microbiological diagnostics to implement a targeted antibiotic. We include bactericidal laser therapy and regenerative treatments in our treatment plans. If surgical techniques need to be implemented, we use high-end anaesthesia and care perioperative.
